We had a great weekend

We had a wonderful time this weekend. We were invited to help surprise a good friend for her 80th birthday. She and her daughters live in Anchorage and her daughters planned it all. The party was perfect! She was so surprised. She laughed and cried. We all went to Girdwood by limo and ate at the Seven Glacier Restaurant. The food was good and the view from the top of Alyeska was amazing. We were treated to an incredible Alaskan sunset.

Moose twins

This spring we were lucky to have twins born in our back yard!

Where have all the moose gone?

I guess it is that time of year. The moose are all in hiding. Probably because the cows are beginning to herd up for the bulls. Mostly because it is moose hunting season right now. Speaking of that, my husband it current doing just that, moose hunting. I haven't heard as yet, but I know he is hoping to bag a record bull. If not, he will have a second chance next month to hunt again as he is one of the lucky hunters to be drawn for a cow permit.

Where we live the bear have been very active which could be another really good reason there are no moose. The bears are browsing now for all they can eat to fulfill their calories needed to prepare for the long winter's sleep.

Fall colors

O hushed October morning mild,
Thy leaves have ripened to the fall;
Tomorrow's wind, if it be wild,
Should waste them all.
The crows above the forest call;
Tomorrow they may form and go.
O hushed October morning mild,
Begin the hours of this day slow.
Make the day seem to us less brief.
Hearts not averse to being beguiled,
Beguile us in the way you know.
Release one leaf at break of day;
At noon release another leaf;
One from our trees, one far away.
